Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police report initial examinations indicate the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the event," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for information.
A high-ranking official said the vandalism made him without words and had to be addressed promptly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
